Tuesday Morning Prayer

Oh, Lord, open my heart, and teach me to love as you love.

Psalm 89:1-2

 I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;
    with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;
    your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

Prayer by Michael Hollings and Etta Gullick

Oh come, Holy Spirit, inflame my heart, set it on fire with love. Burn away my self-centredness so that I can love unselfishly. Breathe your life-giving breath into my soul so that I can live freely and joyously, unrestricted by self-consciousness, and may be ready to go wherever you may send me. Come like a gentle breeze and give me your still peace so that I may be quiet and know the wonder of your presence and help diffuse it into the world. Never let me shut you out; never let me try to limit you to my capacity; act freely in me and through me; never leave me, O Lord and giver of life!

Closing prayer

Holy one who is love, teach me to love with selfless abandon, as one who is free from this world. Help me to nurture a wide definition of love, including not only the way I treat individual people, but the way I speak, work, vote, shop, eat, and play. Remind me of those who suffer most in this world: people of color, immigrants, LGBTG+ people, children, people with disabilities, people with mental illness, victims of abuse, and all those who do not experience justice. May love and justice pour forth from me not of my power but of yours, Holy God. Teach me to love recklessly, for in you I have nothing to lose. Amen.
