Sunday Morning Prayer

Oh Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare your praise.

Psalm 63:1-4

O God, you are my God, I seek you,
    my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
    as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
    beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
    my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
    I will lift up my hands and call on your name.

Hymn: For the Beauty of the Earth by F. S. Pierpoint

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies:

Father, unto thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise.

For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower.
Sun and moon and stars of light:

For the joy of ear and eye.
For they heart and brain's delight,
For the mystic harmony
Linking sense to sound and sight:

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
For all gentle thoughts and mild:

For each perfect gift of thine
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven:

Father, unto thee we raise
This our sacrifice of praise.

Closing prayer

Holy God, risen one, broken and victorious one: You are before, beyond, within and among all things. At the start of this day, at the start of this week, comfort, sustain, energize and inspire me, reminding me you are never far but always within. Amen.
